Joan of Arc heard the voices of Saints Michael, Catherine of Alexandria, and Margaret of Antioch beginning around age 13. These saints told her to help Charles VII be named the rightful king of France and to drive the English from French soil during the Hundred Years' War. Joan of Arc was 19 when they killed her for saving France, for proving that women didn't need male authority to be powerful, to lead, to hear God, to change the world. But they couldn't kill her legacy. Twenty-two years after her death, her sentence was overturned. The church that condemned her eventually declared her a saint. History remembers her not as a heretic but as a hero.
